After all, the buzz turned out to be true; there will be a new version of the famous Roal Dahl story: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with johnny Depp as the flamboyant Willy Wonka. What will happen then? the shooting is programmed for 2004 and the release date it's been changed to june 2005. Warner was reluctant to make a remake of the famous Roal Dahl's story because the Roal himself didn't like the film; as a matter of fact he hated it. The only reason for this remake is that Tim Burton jumped in to the project. Quite cool! isn't it?

This movie is dued to be release on hollydays 2004 probably, still fox doesn't know the exact date yet. Anyways there's already a lot of heated discussions about the film version of this fantastic four!... somehow the rumour started in between fans that the Famous Human Torch powers will be limited to only the fingertips!!! which I myself consider outrageous too!! anyways it caused a lot of fuzz in between alltime fans of the beloved characters and let's just hope Fox reconsider this mistake!

One of my favorite autor's book is going to be translated to film once again: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roal Dahl. The story already adapted to screen on the seventies is going to be remake to be released on june 2005 by Warner Bross. It is rumored Tim Burton will be the director! and possible johnny Dept will team on again with him! for Willy wonka, but Nicolas Cage is another posibility (and most accurate I must say) for the flamboyant Wonka character!

The new batman movie is already on preproduction!! the new Bruce Wayne will be Christian Bale (Reign of Fire); and this time will be directed by Christopher Nolan (memento, insomnia, following) but the writer is David S. Goyer (Blade, Blade II, The Crow: city of Angels and the recent: Freddy vs Jason) so, don't expect too much regarding the story.... mmm I wonder if the director can make it work it out

Todavía en negociaciones sobre cuando debe de estrenarse Kill Bill Vol.1, creo que Tarantino está trabajando mas rápido de lo que se piensa: aparte de su nueva doble entrega ya se encuentra en preproducción de su siguiente pelicula: Inglorious Bastards, programada para presentarse en el festival de Cannes del 2004 y abrir al público en el 2005. Por su parte, Kill Bill vol. 1 tiene como fecha de estreno el 7 de noviembre del 2003, (según se rumora) si es asi, va a crear gran expectativa porque estara compitiendo con The Matrix revolutions, lo cual, segun se rumora es la intención.

Still in negociations about when should open Kill Bill Vol 1, Tarantino is working harder than everyone could expect: he is in preproduction of his new movie Inglorious bastards programmed to open at the Cannes Film Festival on 2004 and open to the public in 2005. Kill Bill vol 1 it is planned to be release on november 7 2004 (acording to rumours), if that is so, it will be against The Matrix revolutions, which is acording to rumous, totally intended.

New Win Wenders movie!!

Michelle Williams, one of the Dawson's Creek actress, will play a role on a Win Wenders movie on production right now. The name of the movie is still unknown. The production is a low budget film and is produced by the Independent Film Channel production Company. The proyect also has John Diehl y Richard Edson who collaborated with wenders on "The End of the violence" and "Million Dollar Hotel respectively.

Una de mis directoras favoritas: Jane Campion (creo que la única mujer directora de reconocimieno internacional, actualmente ... mmm corríjanme si estoy mal) estrenó en premier mundial su nueva película "in the cut" en el Festival Internacional de cine de Toronto. Basada en la novela homónima de Susan Moore.
Jane Campion, directora compatriota de Peter Jackson (Nueva Zelanda) en esta ocasión trabaja con Meg Ryan, kevin Bacon, Jeniffer Jason Leigh, Mark Ruffalo.
Su fecha original de estreno (para la audiencia en general) era el 15 de agosto del 2003 pero Screen Gems (distruidora de sony) la retrasó para el 24 de octubre. Precisamente ayer que estaba viendo el churro azucarado de "underworld" pude ver el trailer de "in the cut", parece interesante, pero me dejo pensando su estilo visual, el cual es muy diferente al de "el piano", la fotografía de "in the cut" se parece más a Holly Smoke que a "The Piano" ... habrá que verla al menos. Otra sorpresa la dio el box office de los Estados Unidos al abrir Underworld este pasado fin de semana en primer lugar y en ultimo Sofia Coppola con "Lost in Translation".

Pánfilo para Presidente AKA las verdadera historia de las ardillitas de lalo guerrero

Arnold para gobernador! que nos espera? como cambiaría la vida del inmigrante en california? y que pasaría con la industria del cine en Hollywood si resulta electo gobernardor?
Cuando empezaron los rumores? pues el año pasado; cuando en plena filmación de Terminator 3, Shwarzenerger decidio regresar a Hollywood; sin explicar las razones: la filmacion misteriosamente se detuvo y regresaron a seguir filmando en Hollywood. el meollo del asunto? Cuando decidio lanzarse para candidato a gobernador, se dio cuenta que estaba involucrado en una "runaway production" (termino utilizado a las compañias que salen de hollywood a otras ciudades menores para ahorrarse costos de produccion) El problema es que Vancouver es una ciudad que se ha vuelto demasiado importante para producciones cinematograficas y ahora empieza a despertar polemicas en Hollywood sobre si es realmente necesario que tengan que filmarse tantas producciones con sus vecinos del norte...

Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu estrena nueva película 21 grams, hay muchas noticias interesantes sobre esta producción. Ya que de nuevo hace equipo con el escritor Guillermo Arriaga; con quien hizo "Amores Perros".
Se estrenó en el Festival de Venecia, 2003.
Actúan: Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn y Naomi Watts.
La historia explora el tema de la muerte y sus personajes buscan redención.

Es la historia intercontectada de 3 personajes (al estilo amores perros) de un ex-drogadicto, una madre soltera y un reconocido matemático con una enfermedad terminal. De nuevo, la manera en que se conectan es en un trágico accidente automovilístico.

Hoy fui a ver Jeepers Creepers 2 no me parecio tan mala como mucha gente piensa; claro, el cine casi vacio y eso que era dia de 2 por uno. Tal vez sea porque la gente se esta esperando para gastar su dinero en el VIFF pero bueno; la verdad es que te entretiene bastante. Tiene muy buenos efectos especiales y de maquillaje y el monstruo alado esta verdaderamente aterrador; cualquier parecido con el monstruo del lago verde de los 60s es pura coincidencia :Op A mi si me latio ;O) a pesar de todo. El director, Victor Salva, viene en Octubre a filmar su proxima pelicula

Today I saw Jeepers Creepers 2, It didn't seem that bad, too bad the teather was almost empty, because it's very entertaining. Very good SFX and make up. The monster reminded me a little bit of that monster movie from the sixties but it's ok. By the way writer director Victor Salva is coming to town on October to shoot his next project.

Lord of the Rings Maraton!

Prepárate para un diciembre pletórico de Tolkien: New Line Cinema anuncia que estrenará las dos versiones extendidas de "Lord of the Rings"(básicamente las ediciones especiales en DVD) en las salas cinematograficas; antes del estreno de la conclusión de "The Return of the King". Ademas, Nueva Zelanda tiene la premiere mundial antes que nadie: el 1 de diciembre! en el Embassy Theatre, Wellington, NZ. Oh joy! para los neozelandeses!!!.El resto de los mortales tendremos que esperar hasta el 16 de diciembre para su estreno.

Me salí con ellos y jamás regresé al Museo.

Cuaron's Break in to the Film Insdustry a.k.a. "the story of "don ponchito"

I was working at the National Museum of Art coordinating the Filmclub, I was already gave up hope on my career as a filmmaker; But one day, Fernando Cámara and Jose Luis García Agraz arrived to the Museum asking for "Don Ponchito". (I am very grateful until today).
They told me: We'll come back 40 years from now, and the only change is that you'll have a lot of grey hair and dandruff. Fernando told me he was going to make a movie, and needed a boom op. I kept thinking about it, I was afraid. Fernando also told me: I am responsible that you'll never be without a job. I left the Museum and never came back".

El Pavoroso Stanley Park

El pavoroso stanley Park, aunque motivo de recreo para muchos vancouverettes, será llevado a la pantalla grande en un futuro no muy cercano. Todo esto en base al infame caso "Babes in the wood" que ocurrio exactamente hace 50 años: Los restos de dos pequeños fueron encontrados en Stanley Park, su identidad? hasta ahora un misterio. Lo mas triste es que nadie logro saber nunca la identidad, lo unico que se supo es que junto con los esqueletos se encontro un zapato de mujer, la policia asume que fue una mujer quien los asesino. El policia encargado del caso, despues de su jubilacion comenta que la sombra de tan misterioso caso la ha perseguido por años, y que por eso es que decidio regresar al caso, hasta no darle con el paradero de la identidad de los niños.
Tambien este año fue motivo de noticias Stanley Park ya que una joven koreana fue brutalmente golpeada en tan infame parque durante la noche que verano del año pasado cuando decidio salir a hacer jogging; horas despues fue encontrada al borde de la muerte tras unos matorrales por un policia y transladada de inmediato al hospital. La noticia conmociono a la poblacion oriental local y durante varios meses la prensa internacional oriental siguio el caso y era comun ver crews orientales en stanley park dando una version detallada de los hechos. Inclusive hubo manifestaciones afuera de la famosa galleria de arte de Vancouver. El sargento Brian Honeybourn concluye durante la entrevista sobre Babes in the Woods que durante años ha desarrollado un cierto respeto a Stanley Park, pues tras largos años de patrullar la zona ha descubierto hechos extraños y la atmosfera es bastante extraña (no wonder X-files fue filmada ahi durante años) inlcusive ha llegado a encontrar restos de veladoras púrpuras y pentagramas dibujados en el piso. Asi es, Stanley Park es sin duda alguna tema de conversación entre la indutria del cine, los medios y el publico en general.

In this film noir tale, an assassin called the Bride (Thurman) is shot down, with child, by her employer, Bill (Carradine) and other members of their assassin circle, at her wedding (along with everyone else at the wedding). Whale Rider una pelicula para chicos y grandes

Otra película digna de verse es Whale Rider. Creo que este es el año de las feministas porque esta película tambien esta protagonizada por una mujer, este caso es la historia(contemporánea)de una niña llamada Pai que quiere ser whale rider (jinete de ballena) pero esta posición es solo permitida para los hombres de la tribu. el film es de Nueva Zelanda, estreno en el festival de Toronto mundialmente y su debut en EU fue en Sundance. le doy 5 estrellas!.

Another film very deserving to see is Whale Rider I guess this is the year of the feminism movement, because this is a contemporary story where the protagonist is a woman, well a girl named Pai, who wants to become a whale rider, but this is a position only for men. This film is from New Zealand and it opened at the Toronto Film Festival and made the US debut at Sundance. (I give it 5 stars!!! better get your pop corn to hide your tears!!!)

La leyenda de Suriyothai, una leyenda real

Hoy fui a ver "The Legend of Suriyothai" la pelicula, como diria mi maestro de cine es: Buen intento, pero fallido. Creo que el error como sabiamente nos decia fue que trató de abarcar muchos años, muchos sucesos de la historia y muchos personajes (+ motivaciones)en solo 2 horas y media. Aun con todo esto, terminas agarrandole sabor. Otro punto importante es que deberían de haber cambiadole el nombre: De La Leyenda de Suriyotai, a "la verdadera historia de Thailandia" porque realmente la película fue realizada con el propósito de educar al público tailandés sobre la historia del país. Pues fue escrita y dirigida por el principe de Tailandia. Tardó muchos años es finalizarse, y fue estrenada en Cannes en el 2001 como proyecto en vias de desarrollo. No me mal intrepeten la pelicula es digna de ir a verse y no se van a aburrir, y tiene muy bonito encuadre. Por lo mismo que se tardo mucho en realizar, se tuvo varios cinematografos: 3. Parte del vestuario asi como props y armas de guerra son realmente antigüedades de esa época. Como dije anteriormente; Vale la pena verla! Le doy 3 estrellas y media. Nota: Cabe aclarar que batio records de taquilla en Tailandia en julio del 2001, superando a Godzilla; inclusive los distribuidores americanos retrasaron sus estrenos 2 semanas, en aquel entonces: Jurasic Park III. Esta sin duda va a ser la película que Tailandia submitirá a la entrega de los oscares.

Today I saw "The Legend of Suriyothai" the film as my film language teacher would say: Nice try! but failed! :Op I think the errors of the film are as follow: they try to cover to many years, too many events and there are too many characters involved (along with motivations) even for 2 hours and a half! at the begining you get confused but you get it though. But don't get me wrong it has great visuals (a little too underexposed for my taste ) and it took several years to get the film done. The movie acomplish it's purpose: to teach the people of thai about their history. The film was written and directed by the prince of Thailand and because of the time involved it had 3 cinematographers. the best part is the Make up & wardrobe, along with war props some of them real antiques from that age!!. and for that I give it 3 and a half stars!!! By the way the film opened at Cannes may 2001 as a project still in progress. Note: This movie broke all records in July 2001 in his own country, overwhelming Godzilla; and Jurassic Park III which had to wait 2 weeks to open. This is certainly Thailand's bet for the Academy Awards.
